Busy days

This will be the last week for homework before the break. Spelling words are: put, friend, it, be, where, get, at, Thursday, lot, and chop. Please be reading nightly and return your reading logs by Friday. We have some special dates coming up.

  • Dec. 19th - Santa hat day
  • Dec. 20th - Hot chocolate and mini candy canes ( bring your own mug or we will have styrofoam cups)
Please remember to complete and return homework by Friday. Also send in any Reading Club books/library books and/or Nightly Reading Books and log books.

Christmas countdown is on.

This week's spelling words are: your, when, that, say, look, go, hot, Wednesday, sore, and store. Please start homework early in the week especially with so much going on. Wednesday, Dec. 5th we have our Elementary Drama Club performing " When Pink Flamingos feel Blue" at 6:00pm. in the Great Hall followed by the play is "Children's Christmas Hour", at 6:15 pm. in the library.
Be sure to practice those "doubles" and "magic numbers", we will have a test soon. Congratulations to another member of the "I have read 100 Books" club. Five students have exceeded 100 books. Great job boys and girls! Have a lovely week everyone.

It's c-c-c-COLD out there!

Winter has found us after all, maybe for just a few days. This week is a busy one. It will be shorter for students, as we have Parent/Teacher interviews on Friday morning, in addition to Thursday evening and PD for teachers Friday afternoon. Homework should be started early in the week. Our spelling words are: good, have, read, any, did, or, too, Tuesday, woke, and spoke. Please, please, please remember to read every night boys and girls. Also, speaking of reading, our Scholastic Book Fair is being held once again. It starts Wednesday Nov. 28th and runs until Friday at 11:30. Check out the flier in your child's report card envelope. Look on the back of the flier to fill out a ballot to win some books. Please remember to sign and send back the envelope. You may keep the report.
Monday night, TONIGHT! is the Gingerbread House night at the library.
The playground can be a pretty cold place. Please make sure your children have all the clothing they need to "face the elements". Enjoy the week- you too Mr. Wynn.

Pink Week!

This week is "Pink Week" at GMCS. Wear pink. Each day there will be something "pink" happening. Today we had our"pinkies" painted. We have several short videos we will be watching to make everyone aware of "bullying" and how we can do our part to help stop it. We will be having an assembly to wrap things up on Friday.
Our spelling words this week are: keep, away, ran, can't, on, this, if, Monday, rake and Drake. We had lots of perfect spelling tests last week, good job class! Please remember to read regularly, you know the story- you only improve if you read, read, read.
Thursday evening there is a "Welcome to Kindergarten" meeting. It will be held in the K-2 classrooms at 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Be sure to dress warmly for the playground. It is quite chilly out there.

Lobster Fishing is starting!

Last week has come and gone at a rapid pace. This week proves to be a short one too. Our spelling words are: help, ride, work, find, there, Sunday, snake, take, male, and tale. Last week we did a review of our spelling words covered to date, there were a lot of mistakes. Hopefully we will be back on track this week. I forgot to mention our trip to the alpaca farm the week before last. We had a great time. Everyone was well behaved and very polite. We saw alpacas, sheep, rabbits and fish. Mr. and Mrs. Warren even treated us to cupcakes and colouring sheets, a very successful and informative outing. Curriculum Night was held last Wednesday and was a great evening for those who attended. Our class did some lovely paintings of poppies. We put them on the cafeteria wall for our for  Remembrance Day services on Friday and Sunday. They will be bringing them home. Book orders went home today. I will probably send them in by next Monday, Nov. 19th. Pink week (anti-bullying) begins next week. Remember to be reading, reading reading!

Happy Hallowe'en!

Our spelling words this week are: house, said, no, let, in, come, also, cake, make and bake. Please have homework in by Friday. Also everyone needs to be reading regularly. We are doing a great job!This is going to be a very busy week. Tonight there is "Hallowe'en at the Library" from 6 -7:15 pm. Wednesday we will be dressing in our costumes for the afternoon ( if you choose to), and going to activities amongst the four K-2 rooms. We will be spending the last half hour of the day in our homerooms. Please remember to bring in a donation for the Food Bank. Thank you to those who have already sent something in. Elementary Drama is Wed. at 3:00 pm. Please be mindful of the note that went home regarding Hallowe'en treats and keep candy at home. Have a great week, and hang on to your hats!

Field trip coming up.

Greetings and salutations to those near and far. This looks like a busy week. Homework has gone home today. Our new words are: what, us, call, my, jump, see, called, strap, gap, slip. Ask your child what "voracious reading" is. We know fluency improves as your time spent reading, increases. We are certainly seeing evidence of that here. Way to go boys and girls!
From Oct.18th until Oct. 31st our school will be participating in Hallowe'en For Hunger". We are asking that students bring in at least one item to help support the local food bank. Thank you in advance. Also, Student Council is having a Hallowe'en Dance for K-2 on Wednesday Oct. 24th in the cafeteria from 6:00-6:45 pm. Admission is $3.00 or $2.00 if you bring an item for the Food Bank. Be sure to dress-up.(costumes)
Wednesday our class will be walking to the Alpaca Farm here in Grand Harbour. Please make sure you have sent your child's permission slip in. We are very excited! There are rabbits too.
Friday we have Show and Tell first thing in the morning and an assembly in the afternoon. A busy week indeed.

Mid - October

This week our spelling words are: make, will, am, me, pretty, same, sap, flap, tip and drip. Everyone is doing a great job getting his/her homework completed and in on or before Friday. Please remember to have your child look back in your duotangs and make any necessary corrections. Everyone should be reading regularly each night. We have had a couple of students pass the "100 books" mark already. Way To Go!! In math we are working on numbers to 100. We are reading numbers to 100 in symbols and words, building numbers with concrete materials, estimating the number of objects in groups to 100, counting forward and backward by 2's, 5's and 10's on a hundred chart and on a numberline and counting coins. Book orders have gone in. Someone ordered two books from the Oct. book order but did not put a name on the form. Let me know if it is you. That is it for this week.

Short week.

This week is indeed a short week. Tomorrow is Thursday already! The spelling words are: she, with, are, he, funny, more, sip, lip, flip and trip. We started homework in class today as I knew it would be a lot to do in two nights. Also please remember to read a few pages tonight. We had a visit from three firefighters today along with some very important Fire Safety tips. Just ask your child what was discussed and where you can get a smoke detector if you do not have one. Check out the contest on the back of the Fire Safety Gazette that your child will be bringing home Friday. Book orders are due in a few days and school pictures will be Friday as far as we know. Friday night there is a movie here at the school, Ice Age. Enjoy the week, all you people in N. S. too ;)

October already!

We have a busy month ahead of us. This week our new spelling words are: all, here, big, is, little, most, cap, map, tap, and trap. We are finishing up our unit on patterns and beginning to work on numbers to 100. Our homework has a page where you will use the "counting on" strategy. We have some voracious readers in our class! Remember to READ every night and write down your titles and/or chapters.
Magazine Envelopes went home today, please check your child's bookbag for them.
 Fire Safety week begins on the 8th. Oct. 9th is a Professional Learning Day for teachers so there will be no school for students that day. Book orders will be going home this week as well.

Autumn has arrived!

Fall is definitely here. Cool crisp evenings and warm days. The new spelling words this week are: the, not, you, want, do, man, track, pack, lock and block. Please have homework returned on or before Friday. Diminishing Daylight.....

Another busy week! Grade two has the following spelling words: like, cat, to, and, dock, I'm, rock, sock, dog, clock. We are working on the "ack" and "ock" families. We are still working on patterns. Remind your child that patterns are everywhere around us. We see patterns in clothing, numbers, dishes etc.
Colds are making the rounds, so be prepared.
This Friday we will be participating in the "Terry Fox" Run. K-2 will be walking around the school twice.
Please see that your child is reading every night. This is an enthusiastic bunch of boys and girls! It is wonderful to be getting homework returned before Friday. The days are noticably shorter. Please take advantage of the indoor time. It is much easier toget homework done and curl up with a book.
 We have another birthday to celebrate, Jack will be 7 on Friday.
 Also we will be having a "Meet the Teacher Night" at 6:00 pm. on Sept. 24th.

Week Two

Well this week has certainly flown by. Homework is due tomorrow, it is great to have so many duotangs back already. The Nightly Reading is going well. The boys and girls have been very conscientious about writing in their own titles and the date.
Remember book orders are due tomorrow (Friday) and the Madagascar 3 movie is playing tomorrow night.
Our first spelling test is tomorrow. We have practiced our Sight Words all week.
In math we are working on a "Pattern" unit. In language Arts we are reviewing the different components of the "Daily 5" and putting them into action.This month in You and Your World we are talking about bullying. We are still going over procedures and routines which is never-ending, and all seems to be going well. Please remember to send in your child's Student Fees. You can send in $10.00 for this first term or $20.00 for the year. Enjoy the rest of the week and the weekend of course.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back everyone! It was a great summer and now here we are, ready for another school year. We have had a good few days at school and are getting into the swing of things.
Homework will start next week, although the boys and girls have brought home books to read tonight. Please have them print the title of the book(s) they read each night along with the date. It is fine if your child brings home a book that is back a level from where he/she was last June, we all tend to get a little rusty over the summer. Also your child may read a book from home if he/she forgets to bring one from school.
Thanks for signing and sending the forms in. Even if you do not wish to subscribe to a magazine, by signing your name and checking "no", we can get free prizes for our class.
Remember there is a "sock-hop" Tuesday, Sept. 11th from 6:00-6:40, book orders are due Sept. 14th and Madagascar 3 will be showing here at GMCS Cinema on the 14th as well.

Here we are, our last week of school, it certainly is hard to believe.
No Homework.
June 20th, Wednesday is our Field Trip to the Anchorage. Permission slips must be signed and returned for Wednesday. Please be sure to send sunscreen, a sun hat and enough drinks and food for your child.
June 21st is our raindate.
Thursday, June 21st is the last day of school for students. Report cards will be sent home with your child at the end of the day.
Please remember to return any Library books your child may have at home and pay any fines you might have. Thank you. Have a safe and enjoyable summer.

Winding down, or should I say "up"?

This week our grade two spelling words are: summer, fall, winter, autumn, spring, swimming, pool, beach, camping, school. Please read every night. People are forgetting to bring in their reading logs. I only need to see them once a week. Homework is due on or before Friday. This week we have a different theme each day. Mon.- Super Hero Day Tues.- Hawaiian Beach Day Wed.- Blue and Gold Day Thurs.-Twin Day Fri.-PJ Day June 6th we have a Black Light Theatre production to attend and Fri. June 8th we have a Bike Rodeo happening. Tune up your bikes! Homeroom Book orders are due by Wednesday.

Short Week!

Grade two spelling words- every, these, hold, done, both, show, well, those, wash, and because. Please study your words and have your homework done and in by Friday. Thursday, May 24th we begin our Literacy Assessments in Grade Two. Please find a letter explaining this in your child's agenda. Please ensure your child is here during this time and well rested. It involves a writing and reading component, we finish up on the 31st.

It feels like spring!

Grade two this week has the following list of spelling words: which, always, try, must, under, open, just, buy, time and think.Please have your child read each night. Some of them are getting "rusty". Our Literacy Assessment is at the end of May and it involves many Reading and Comprehension exercises as well as Writing. Tomorrow, April 25th, our Drama Club heads to Saint John to perform the play, "Princess". They did a fine job here at school this morning and last night. Check out Mrs. Jone's Blog for some great pictures. April 27th we have an assembly at 1:20 pm. May 4th is Subject Council Day for Teachers. There is no school for students that day.

Trouting Season has arrived!

We have another short week this week. Friday is a Curriculum Day for teachers.
Grade Two - please be reading every night, Log Books need to be brought in at least once a week to be checked. Homework is due on or before Thursday, this week's words are, thank, school, but, own, never, fly, know, much, than, and spill.
Next Monday, April 23rd., our K-5 Drama group will be performing "Princess". The play starts at 6:00 pm. in the Great Hall and admission is $5.00/person or $10.00/ family. They will be performing on the mainland the following Wed. the 25th.

April showers bring May flowers.

Another four day week! Time is flying. Today we all enjoyed a great performance by TNB. Thank you for sending money in with your child. If you did not recieve the message, each child was asked to bring $3.00 to help cover the travel expenses, etc..
K-2 brought home book orders today, the deadline is Wednesday April 11th.
Grade Two has ten spelling words along with the regular homework. They are: best, small, over, long, off, together, sit, were, part, and shell.
PLEASE send in your child's homework duotang on or before Thursday and see that he/she is reading nightly.
There will be an assembly this Thursday at 1:15 pm.

Short and Busy Week!

This week is winding down already where there is no school for students on Friday.
Gr. 2- homework due on Thursday or before.
-Spelling words- These words are review words and I am sure we will have some perfect tests. The list is: going, write, stop, into, got, made, new, would, each, chest.
K-2- March 26th and 27th we have done speeches in the clasrooms. Three or four will be chosen from each grade (k-2) to present them at the Assembly on April 5th at 1:15 pm.
Tuesday March 27th Report Cards went home, please keep the report and sign and return the envelope.
March 29th, Thursday evening Parent Teacher Interviews will be held from 6-8 pm. and Friday morning from 9-11.
There is no school for students on Friday.

Welcome Back!

It is nice to be back at school. The boys and girls all look as if they have sprouted a couple of centimetres or so.
K-2 Homeroom - Book orders are due the 16th/March.
- March 23rd is a curriculum day for teachers, no school for students
- Report cards will be going home the week of March 26th
- Parent/Teacher interviews are on Thursday evening Mar.29th and Friday
morning of the 30th.
- Scholastic Book Fair is from March 28th-30th at the Library

March 1st ! In like a lamb out like a lion.

This week is almost over. I hope everyone has a great March break. I feel we are all more than ready. Tomorrow Grade two will be writing the number words zero to ten. Most of the homework is in and I am sure the rest will be in tomorrow.
Not long after the break, report cards will be going home. The school year truly "flies" after that. Book orders will go home on the 12th.

Looks like Spring....

This week seems to be a little calmer thus far.
Grade Two- Homework is due on or before Friday. We were missing quite a few duotangs last Friday. Spelling words this week are: had, don't, some, them, by, very, old, went, another, chug. Read and record your titles EVERY night please. We have started a unit on "Measurement". Be practicing the "Days of the week"" and "months of the year" along with "Doubles" and "making ten" numbers.
They tell me Day 100 was a great success. I was sick and it was the first one I have ever missed I am sad to say. The projects were great and thank you those who delivered and picked up. We still have a few of the larger ones here, they can be picked up any time. We (they) also enjoyed some delicious cake thanks to Anthony's Mom.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Thank you to those who sent cupcakes, fruit and treats for our party and card exchange today.All went well and the boys and girls were very appreciative to their classmates for their cards. Thank you everyone for my cards.
Day 100 projects are starting to appear. We will be celebrating on Friday. Projects go to your child's homeroom and will be displayed in the cafeteria on Friday right after lunch.
Gr. 2 Homework- Please be reading every night. I need to see your child's Log Book at least once a week.I see such a difference in the boys and girls who read regularly.This week's spelling words are: could, walk, has, take, of, laugh, drink, far, mother, trunk.

February - Busy month

Grade Two- Everyone should be working on homework and reading a book or chapter every night. Duotangs are due on or before Friday.Spelling test is on Friday. Spelling words are in agendas.
Day 100 is just around the corner. It will now fall on February 17th. Some of the students have started to bring projects in already.

Homeroom Bookorders are due Feb. 10th.
On Valentine's Day we will be exchanging cards and having a little snack.
Please come in and check out the "Lost and Found" if your child (children) is missing anything.

Grade Two Homework
Be sure to read every night. We have had quite a few people reach 100 books already! Way to go! Homework is due on or before Friday and please remember to check back at the previous week's work to correct any mistakes you may have had.

K-2 Cronk bookorders are due Wednesday Jan. 18th.
Wednesday Jan. 18th is Drama practice. Tryouts for the new play, "Princess" will be held that day. Remember to practice the parts that were sent home on the letter last week.
Our "Lost and Found" is beginning to pile up. You may want to check our assortment of hats, mitts, hoodies, snow pants, etc.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to everyone. We are back in the swing of things and have the following colour words for our spelling words this week; green, yellow, red, brown, blue, pink, purple, white, orange,and black.
Please see that your child continues to read every night and prints the title in his/her green half scribbler.
As you know, the playground can be a very cold spot. Please send hats and mitts along with your child, snowpants too, even if there is no snow. We go out every day.
