Busy days ahead!

This week grade two has the following spelling words: your, when, that, say, look, go, hot, Wednesday, sore, store.
Please keep reading those books- very, very important. Homework due on or before Friday.
Wednesday, Dec. 7th "Goldilock and the Three Bears" will be performed by our Drama group at 6:00pm for the public, donations welcome.
Special days coming. December 13th will start us off with "winter hat" day. I will send a list of activities in your child's agenda, soon.

This mild weather surely has us spoiled.
Grade Two- this week's spelling words are: good, have, read, any, did, or, too, Tuesday, woke, spoke.
Please complete homework duotangs on or before Friday. It is a very busy time of year I know, but please encourage your children to read every night. It is actually a chance to relax, unwind and let your child entertain you and show you what he/she knows.
Drama is on Wednesday at 3:00 pm. and the first production is coming up on December 7th at 6:00 pm. Donations are welcome in lieu of an admission fee. The play is Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Scholastic Book orders are due next Monday, Dec. 5th.- I will send the order Tuesday.

Yikes! The week is almost over.
Grade Two- Spelling words are in agendas. Please bring homework in on or before Friday.Be sure to read every night. We have two people who have read over 100 books! Way to go!
This week has been Pink Week. Students and staff have been wearing pink all week. Each day there has been something "pink" happening. Friday we get our pink T-shirts and the entire school body will have it's picture taken. Curriculum Night is tonight, Thursday from 6:00- 7:00 pm. Come and check things out at the Cafeteria.

Grade Two Homework: Spelling words:keep, away, ran, can't, on, this, if, Monday, rake, Drake.
Only three nights to complete your homework, please return your duotangs by Thursday.
It is very exciting to see how many of you have moved up a level in your reading. The boys and girls who are reading regularly each night are becoming better readers, no question.
The Scholastic Bookfair begins Thursday I believe, and goes until Friday noon.
November 18th there is no school for students. Parent/Teacher interviews are Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm and Friday am. from 9:00-11:00.
You should have received your child's report card today. You may keep the actual report but please sign the envelope and return it.
SPY KIDS is playing here at GMCS Nov. 18th at 7:00 pm.

Remembrance Day Friday

Grade Two- Homework due on or before Thursday as there is no school on Friday.Please study your spelling words. These are mostly review words. (see agenda)Be sure to read every night, this is so important!
Thursday we will be having a Remembrance Day Service for the students beginning at 1:00 pm.
Report cards will be sent home next week and Parent/teacher interviews will follow the night of the 17th and Friday morning the 18th.
The Scholastic Bookfair takes place next week as well.

November skies turned cold and grey...

Grade 2- Homework is due on Friday. Spelling words are: house,no,said,let,in,come,also cake,make,bake. Be sure to read every night/morning. Be watching for those "ight" words we talked about. Please bring in your Reading Log, I haven't seen many lately. practice counting by 2's, 5's and 10's, forward and backwards.
Friday, Nov. 4th, Rio is playingat GMCS Cinema.
Colds are rampant, get lots of sleep, wash those hands and eat your fruit and veggies.

Hallowe'en is fast approaching!

Hallowe'en Dance for K-5 tonight, Monday, October 24th from 6pm-7pm. Admission is $3.00.Please be there to pick your child up at 7 pm. Costumes are optional.
October 26th,6:15-7:45pm there is a Family Movie Night at the Library. Check out Spooky Buddies.
October 26th is Welcome to Kindergarten night from 6:00-7:00 pm. If you or someone you know has a child starting school in the fall, please let them know that this is taking place in the K-2 wing. Please come and bring your child. It is a great chance for the children to meet the teachers and join in some activities.
Please read the yellow/gold coloured notice in your child's agenda bag, regarding Hallowe'en candy.

Grade Two-
Homework is due on Friday (or before). Please be reading every night. Your child should have read 24 or more books/chapters by now.
In math we are working with numbers 1-100.

Cold season has arrived!

Grade Two- Homework is due Thursday this week.
Spelling words: make, will, am, me, pretty, same, sap, flap, tip, drip.
The boys and girls are doing very well with their nightly reading. Keep up the good work!
There will be no school for students this Friday, Oct. 21st. the teachers will be travelling for their Curriculum Day.
Drama is getting underway this week. It is on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00 pm.
There will be a Welcome to Kindergarten meeting here at the school on Wednesday, October 26th. It is for the parents who have a child starting school in the fall. It is from 6:00- 7:00 pm.

Fire Safety Week

This week is Fire Safety Week. We had a visit and demonstration by the Grand Manan Fire Department today. It was very informative and the boys and girls listened well. They were able to answer most of the questions at the end of the session. Be sure to check your smoke detectors and make a plan with your family to follow in the event of a fire.
Grade Two- spelling words this week: she, with, are, he, funny, more, sip, lip, flip and trip. Please READ every night.
Homeroom- Scholastic orders have not been sent in yet. I will send them in on Friday.
Friday, October 14th The Lion King will be playing here at school at 7:00pm.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Grade Two-
Homework is due on or before Friday.
Please be reading every night. The boys and girls should be writing their own titles and date in their Nightly Reading Log books. This is good practice.
Spelling words this week are: all, here, big, is, little, most, cap, map, tap, trap.

Homeroom-
We had a fantastic performance this morning by the Celtic Rathscallions. We saw and listened to a wide variety of instruments. We even saw step dancing. It was great.
Scholastic book orders are due Oct. 6th/7th.
School pictures are October 7th.
Oct. 7th is also the last day to order your pink T-shirt for anti-bullying week. The cost is $3.00.

Clifford comes to visit!

It doesnt seem like summer is over. We can't put our shorts away yet!
Grade Two-
Homework is due on or before Friday.
Spelling words are: the, not, do, you, want, man, track, pack, block, lock.
Please read every night, also write your own titles please. This is good printing practice.
We had a visitor at the library today. Clifford arrived and had bookmarks and pencils for everyone, thankyou Clifford. We love you !
October 3rd we are having a concert here at school. The Rathscallions are coming and playing Celtic music. We are asked to bring in a loonie to help cover the cost.
Pink T-shirts are also available for "pink" week. Nov. 21st-25th is anti-bullying week, October 7th is the last day to order.

Here we are into our third week already. There is a lot going on.
Grade Two will need to get their homework finished and handed in before Thursday. Our test will be on Thursday. These are the spelling words for the week: like, cat, to, and, dog, I'm, rock, sock, dock, clock.
READ every night, and/or after school.
Terry Fox Run- we will be walking around the school rain or shine. Thank you for sending in a "toonie".
We will be practicing BUS SAFETY this week, always listen to your bus driver and do as you are asked.
NO SCHOOL on Friday Sept. 23rd as the teachers are working on the School Improvement Plan.

Autumn

We are settling into a routine here in K-2 quite quickly. The little ones are doing well trying to keep so many things "straight".
Just a reminder that agenda $ (7.00) is due along with any class information sheets that might still be at home.
Grade two - This week's spelling words are: I, can, run, play, day, a, sack, back, we and black. Homework is due on or before Friday . Please have your child read a book every night, if your child wants to read one from home that is fine. Have your child write the title and date in his/her log book by him/herself. They need the practice and are quite capable.
- September 22nd we will be participating in the annual "Terry Fox" run. The K-2 children will be walking around the school rain or shine at 1:05 pm.. Please send in a "toonie" for this very worthwhile cause.( Dress accordingly).
- September 23rd there is no school for students. The teachers will be working on "goals" for our School Improvement Plan.
- September 27th our library will be celebrating ten years of service. There will be a special visitor for our classes to go see. Be on the lookout!

Welcome!

Welcome to everyone!I hope you have all had a wonderful summer and are excited to be "back" at school or coming for the first time. Sorry about all the papers that went home yesterday with the agendas but there really is no way around that one.
Thank you to all who sent the info. sheets back already, Agenda $, and all the little fliers for various magazines. Just by "signing" your name helps in the class getting stickers or other such prizes.Scholastic book orders are due Mon.,Sept. 12th. Our schedule is a little different this year. We have gym every day and it is in the morning. Library books need to be here by Wednesday and math is in the afternoon. Our assemblies are on the last Friday of each month. Lunch is from 11:50-12:05.
We are looking forward to another great year at GMCS. If you have any questions and/or concerns you can reach me here at school until 4:30 or 5:00 pm. 662-7000.

Tuesday,June 7th there is no school for Kindergarteners. The Pre-schoolers will be joining us for the day.

Oops!

Please remember Friday, May 20th we are to wear "blue and gold" for "School Colour Day".
Also, Monday May 23rd is Victoria Day so there will be no school that day, and Tuesday is a Professional Development Day for teachers. See you on Wednesday.

Wet week........again!

The week is zipping by.

The School Dance was Tuesday evening and was enjoyed by all who attended.
Tonight, Wed. 18th at 6:00 pm., we are having a Curriculum Night for Pre-K -2 in the Great Hall.Please join us along with your child, for a look and participation session with some of the activities we do.It will run from 6-7:00pm. We hope to see you there.

No sun in sight!

Grade Two Homework=
Spelling words, found in your child's agenda. The "special" words this week have a soft "g" sound as in "large". Please practice these words every night. Last week's spelling results were much better! Please see that your child answers questions in a "good" sentence, not just one or two words.(these are exercises where they are required to give a written answer)

May 13th - Backwards day
May 16th - Monday, Lego Club at the library
May 17th -Tues. there will be an Elementary school dance for K-2 from 6-7 pm.
May 18th - Curriculum Night, this will be an evening when preK-2 are invited to school with their parents to see what activities we do in math and language arts. We will send more information along as we decide on time and location.

May

Here we are starting a new month yet again. Homework is due on or before Thursday. This week we are focusing on some spelling words with a "soft c". Here are the words: ice, dance, police, cylinder, city, circle, mill, tell, January,and February. Also, everyone needs to be reading nightly. We all know the benefits of this routine.Please return the envelopes for Jump Rope for Heart, if you have some pledges.
Thursday is our last day for this week as teachers will be travelling to different locations for Subject Council. On Thursday, the K-2 students will be dismissed at 1:30pm and 3-12 will go at 2:30 pm.

April's end

Just a reminder that grade two homework needs to be in tomorrow, along with Reading Logs.
Spelling test is Friday: watch those tricky "silent K" words.
Friday we have our monthly assembly at 1:20 pm.
Another four day week coming up. Teachers are headed for Subject Council on May 6th. There will be no school that day.
Be checking out "signs of spring". There are lots of pussywillows out and I am hearing frogs and seeing frog's eggs! I even saw a purple violet.

Happy Easter!

Yikes! Where has this week gone? We are halfway through this one as it is a four day week.
Miss Guptill is settling in to K-2 and we all welcome her, we miss Mrs. G.G. and wish her all the best.
We have had a busy week so far, here in K-2. Monday the boys and girls wore pedometres to keep track of the number of steps they took throughout the day. There were some surprising results. Grades 3-5 will be taking a turn tomorrow, as well as the teachers. The drama group performed their play Monday evening for the public. They did it for K-5 this morning and did a fine job. Off to the mainland to perform in St. Andrew's tomorrow. Bravo !! Many thanks to Mrs. Jones and Ms. Parker for all the hours they have dedicated to practices and to the boys and girls.
Grade Two- Please study those tricky spelling words every night, your test is Thursday. Be sure to bring in your homework early this week as there is no school on Friday.
Science East was a big success! The children really enjoyed the "hands-on" activities and most of them were able to get in for two visits.
Your child has brought home a packet with information on " jump rope for Heart and Stroke"( that's not quite the correct wording) but please check their agenda bags and you will see what I mean. Have a nice "long" weekend !

Spring has Sprung!

Spring is officially here but it is still quite chilly on the playground. Dress warmly.
The spelling words this week are in your child's agenda. We are concentrating on the "aw" sound. Please sign your child's spelling test that he/she brought home Monday and return it.
Read every night. Most of you are doing a fantastic job! Keep it up!
Also could you please have your child check back in his/her homework duotang and correct any mistakes that have not been corrected.Thank you.

-Friday, March 18th we will be having a spelling test of 21 words. The list is in your child's Homework duotang.Please make sure you know these words ( boys and girls). They are words you already know so you should only need to review them.
Please make sure you look back at your previous homework and correct any mistakes you may have had.
- Please be reading a book(s) or chapter every night.Remember to write down the title and date as well.
-Book orders are due this Friday, March 18th, sorry if you ended up with two this month.

Busy Week

It was great to see so many of you at our French Culture Assembly today. The girls and boys worked very hard on their songs and dances. Thank you to all the people who helped make this happen.

February

It is chilly out there!
This week the Grade two spelling words are: play, father, use, mice, side, wink, flight, fine, now and drink. Please study these words until you know them well. I am pleased with the last few week's spelling test results. Keep up the good work! Everyone needs to be reading a book or a chapter every night. Make sure it is "just right" for you.
We have an exciting event planned for Friday February 4th. At 10:00 am., parents of K-2 and grade five, are invited to a French Culture Assembly in the Great Hall.
(Grandparents are welcome too). It will last approximately one hour.
Also Scholastic Book orders are due Friday but I will wait until next Monday to send the order.
February 9th we have Theatre New Brunswick coming to perform. This is always exciting and anticipation is already in the air. The cost is $3.00/child. Thank you to those who have sent in their money.

Mid-Winter

Here we are back into the swing of things.
Grade Two- Homework is due on Friday or before. Our spelling words this week are: big,line, went,hide,rink,like,come,tight,blink and here.
A big thanks for having homework in on time. Grade two does a great job getting their homework duotangs in on time. Remember to have your child read every night, don't forget to write down the titles, ( kids that is).
Homeroom- I will be sending in the Jan. book order on Wednesday (Jan. 19th) in case you would still like to order.
Yearbooks can still be ordered up until March 4th.
Please encourage your children to bundle up, it is quite cold out on the playground.
