Greetings and salutations to those near and far. This looks like a busy week. Homework has gone home today. Our new words are: what, us, call, my, jump, see, called, strap, gap, slip. Ask your child what "voracious reading" is. We know fluency improves as your time spent reading, increases. We are certainly seeing evidence of that here. Way to go boys and girls!
From Oct.18th until Oct. 31st our school will be participating in Hallowe'en For Hunger". We are asking that students bring in at least one item to help support the local food bank. Thank you in advance. Also, Student Council is having a Hallowe'en Dance for K-2 on Wednesday Oct. 24th in the cafeteria from 6:00-6:45 pm. Admission is $3.00 or $2.00 if you bring an item for the Food Bank. Be sure to dress-up.(costumes)
Wednesday our class will be walking to the Alpaca Farm here in Grand Harbour. Please make sure you have sent your child's permission slip in. We are very excited! There are rabbits too.
Friday we have Show and Tell first thing in the morning and an assembly in the afternoon. A busy week indeed.

Mid - October

This week our spelling words are: make, will, am, me, pretty, same, sap, flap, tip and drip. Everyone is doing a great job getting his/her homework completed and in on or before Friday. Please remember to have your child look back in your duotangs and make any necessary corrections. Everyone should be reading regularly each night. We have had a couple of students pass the "100 books" mark already. Way To Go!! In math we are working on numbers to 100. We are reading numbers to 100 in symbols and words, building numbers with concrete materials, estimating the number of objects in groups to 100, counting forward and backward by 2's, 5's and 10's on a hundred chart and on a numberline and counting coins. Book orders have gone in. Someone ordered two books from the Oct. book order but did not put a name on the form. Let me know if it is you. That is it for this week.

We started homework in class today as I knew it would be a lot to do in two nights. Also please remember to read a few pages tonight. We had a visit from three firefighters today along with some very important Fire Safety tips. Just ask your child what was discussed and where you can get a smoke detector if you do not have one. Check out the contest on the back of the Fire Safety Gazette that your child will be bringing home Friday. Book orders are due in a few days and school pictures will be Friday as far as we know. Friday night there is a movie here at the school, Ice Age. Enjoy the week, all you people in N. S. too ;)
