Busy week.

This is a busy week indeed, starting with tomorrow. Tomorrow evening at 6:30 pm, the Drama group is performing "Welcome to Grand Manan". There is no admission but donations would be greatly appreciated to help out with travel costs on the 22nd. They are going to Drama Fest in St. George.
The play will also take place for K-5 at 9:00am on April 21st.
The Music Festival begins Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm and runs Thursday morning. Check out the posters in the community for details. There will be no cafeteria on Thursday for K-6, I believe. We will be eating in our classroom.
April 24th is our monthly assembly at 1:20 pm in the Great Hall.
Homework is due on or before Friday and please remember to read every day.

Snow is melting fast !

This week our April book orders are due. I will take any orders up until Friday.
Please see that your child has his/her homework in, on or before Friday, along with the reading log. I have not seen many reading logs these last couple of weeks. We have been working hard on our comprehension stories and questions in preparation for our assessment coming up in May. Please listen to your child read and ask him/her questions about the stories.
Also, lice is still "on the go". If your child has long hair, it would be a good idea to tie it up.
Next week, April 20th is a regular school day. The professional learning for teachers scheduled for that day is not happening because of the number of "snow days" we have had. The evening of April 20th, the Elementary Drama Club will be performing "Welcome to Grand Manan" at 6:30 pm in the Great Hall, no charge, but donations are welcome. April 21st. they will perform at 9:00 am for the K-5 students. The next day they are off to St. George to take part in the Drama Festival. It will be a busy week. Our Music Festival is also taking place that week, more details to follow.
I hope you noticed the big red envelope in your child's bookbag, it is the Jump Rope for Heart Campaign. The information is enclosed. Also the library has a contest going which includes all the necessary information you need for your child to enter. Good things are happening!

This week in review......

It was great to see some parents out for Parent /Teacher visits and the Scholastic Book Fair at the library.
It certainly has been a hectic time with flu, colds, weather and boat issues. Hopefully we will be able to get back on track this next week. Homework will be due on or before Thursday, as Friday is Good Friday.
Monday, TNB will be here performing a play. The cafeteria will have a limited menu ( I believe, listen for talk-mail) and we will be eating in our rooms. The cost of the play has been included in the Student Fee your child brought in back in the fall, unless you haven't paid the second installment.
Please return your child's report card envelope with your signature on the back, keep the report.
That is it for this week.
We are preparing for our Provincial Literacy "assessment" which will take place the end of May and early June. There is a combination of short stories, letters, cartoons and experiments that your child reads, then answers 10-12 multiple choice questions. It is challenging. In order for child to be successful, he/she needs to be able to read independently and answer questions about the text such as:
main idea, recalling facts and details, comparing and contrasting, sequence, and author's purpose. By reading every night, your child should be able to do this with confidence and do well. Please ensure they are reading.
Have a great week.

They say spring is just around the corner......hmmmm.

More weather. The playground is quite a mess, please be sure your child wears skipants for awhile yet. If it should go above freezing, it might be a good idea to send extra pants and socks in case your child gets wet.
Report cards are going home March 25th, Parent/Teacher Interviews to follow the end of that week.
I will wait until Wednesday 18th before sending in the book order.
Please see that your child returns his/her library book on, or before Wednesday. Homework is due on or before Friday. Please remind your child to read every evening. If he/she should forget to bring home a book, just read one from home. Send in the Log Book too please, at least every couple of days.
Have a great week, and Happy Spring on Friday.

Lengthening Days.

This week got off to a great start with our Day 100 Celebration on Monday. The projects were super and very creative. I am sure you will be able to look at pictures on Mrs. Jone's Blog, please check them out.
Please see that your child is reading every day/night. We will be testing "Reading" levels this week. Also I have tested "Doubles" and "Magic Numbers" twice now, and only two students know them well. Being able to rattle these off without thinking really helps when adding and subtracting.
Please have your child bring in his or her Library book this Wednesday. With March Break coming up I am sure you do not want any overdue book charges.
Enjoy the week.

Snow! Snow! Snow!

Well it looks like "Day100" will be Monday, February 23rd. . Let us hope. Projects need to be in by this Wednesday. The students will be presenting them during math class starting tomorrow, as we already have a few in. All the projects will be on display next Monday afternoon," Day 100", in the Great Hall/Cafeteria.
We will begin our homework in class on Tuesday because of our four day week. This will give everyone a good start. Remember to be reading regularly, actually a good pastime with weather like this.
Have a good "rest" of the week.

Happy Valentine's Day....coming up.

Tuesday, February 10th our class will be going curling during Gym time. Please send in your "signed", blue permission slip if you can find it, or a note in your child's agenda saying your child has permission to go curling.
Friday Feb. 13th is a teacher Professional Development Day, no school for students. Therefore we will be exchanging valentines and celebrating on the afternoon of Feb. 12th.
Day 100 is looking like the 19th of Feb., that is if we do not have any more snow days before then.
Projects should be in by the 17th as the children will be presenting them in class as they come in.
