Gr. two students have brought home a form and brochure about flouride. Please sign this and return it as soon as possible. We will be starting this soon.
Report cards will be going home Mon. Nov. 16 th.Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held the evening of Wednesday Nov. 18th from 6:00-8:00 pm. and Thursday morning Nov. 19th from 9:00- 11:00. There will also be a Scholastic Book Fair in the Library the same week.

Thank you to those who have already contributed to the "books for schools" through World Vision. This is a very worthwhile project. Also we are going to be sending some small toys and other items to Afghanistan. Trevor O'Neill is currently there and is willing to distribute some things to the children. They have very little. We are asked to not send any toy guns or anything related to violence or war.
All the best to those of you heading out on the water to set traps this week. May you have a safe and prosperous season.

Hallowe'en approaches

The weather is certainly turning cooler. Please make sure your children have hats and mittens. The wind on the playground always makes it that much colder.
Consent forms have gone home regarding the H1N1 vaccinations. Please return the forms as soon as possible.
Grade two students will have a spelling test on Friday, only six words. These are in your child's agenda. Please read to your child and listen to him/her read to you. Also, the math sheet with "doubles" is in your child's duotang, back a few pages. Please see that your child knows these well. Homework is due FRIDAY.

Fall has arrived!

September is almost over and the weather is definitely changing.
Grade Two - Homework is due on or before Friday. We have no spelling words yet to study, but all the boys and girls need to be reading every night. Please print neatly in all your work.
K-2- Everyone did a great job walking around the school last Friday for the Terry Fox Run. Thank you so much for your donations to this very worthwhile cause.
- Friday we have an assembly at 1:20 in the cafeteria. It is a new time this year, feel free to stop by.
- Once again we have Jackie Kinghorne visiting the K-2 classes and instructing them on handwashing. This is always so important, but especially this year with flu season fast approaching and the H1N1 flu.
- There is no school October 8th and 9th. That will make an extra long weekend for the students with Thanksgiving that weekend. Teachers have curriculum days.
Please continue to check your child's head for lice. On that note, have a great week. M. Cronk

Back in the groove.

Welcome back everyone and a warm welcome to those joining us for the first time. We are settling into our routines quite well and aren't so sleepy this week. Thank you parents for being so patient with the reams and reams of paper to read through. I know it is overwhelming to get so much information and then all the bookclub and magazine subscriptions too. A little reminder to please send in agenda money and your child's personal information sheet. Also we are asking for a loonie for the Terry Fox Run (walk) which we will all be participating in on Sept. 25th. K-2 just walk around the school a couple of times.
Grade Two homework went home for the first time this week. Please see that your child returns it on or before Friday, thanks to those who already have.Your child should be bringing home a book every night to read to you. I am so happy to see that they are printing their own titles and dates. There will be no spelling as such, for the next while.
The cafeteria should be up and running on Monday, Sept. 21st.
Enjoy the fallish weather. M. Cronk

Busy Week!

Another busy week is underway. Grade Two will not be having anymore homework, but of course everyone is expected to read everynight. The library has sent forms to us to send along to you about their summer reading program and also about a fun program called "Artrageous" (I think), that is happening this summer. Lots of fun activities are planned and there is no cost.
Thursday is our annual trip to the Anchorage Park. Hopefully we will have good weather, Friday is our raindate. We will leave at 11:00 and the buses will pick us up there to deliver us home at our regular time. Please be sure to pack sunscreen and a hat for your child. It is also a good idea to have your child's name on any toys or clothing. Things always tend to go missing, or show up and no one claims them. A hoodie or jacket would be a good idea too because we often get fog and/or wind. We will not be swimming.
Keep on reading and watch for fireflies, they should appear very soon. M. Cronk

June

Here it is Wednesday already! Things are definitely winding down.
Grade Two-
-This week grade 2 has one double-sided sheet for homework.
-There are ten spelling words in the agendas, PLEASE STUDY!
-Also, everyone needs to be reading nightly. I know everyone is busy, but we haven't had homework for two weeks and this is very important. I can really tell the difference in reading, with the boys and girls that read regularly and the ones who don't.Your child should have brought home a book, Miss Rumphius to read to you, at least a few pages to you, and the rest on his/her own.

Homeroom K-2
- Please remember to sign and return permission slips. There are a few Field Trips happening over the next couple of weeks.
Mrs. Jones has a link on her Blog with a short video of last Friday's events (Fun Day). Have a look.
Have a great week! M. Cronk

Gr. 2 Literacy Assessment/ Carnival

Yikes! You know life is busy when...you haven't blogged in a month!
This week is Spring Carnival Week. Your children have brought home schedules outlining the various events that are taking place. Friday will probably be the most exciting day as we will be going on the "inflatables", having hotdogs and other treats and watching the movie "Bolt". Please make sure you have signed the permission slip if your child wants to participate.
On another note, the grade two students are doing their Literacy Assessment. Please have your child tucked into bed early so they he/she is in top form. There is a comprehension component and a writing section. It is time consuming and rather intensive. Everyone seems to be trying their best and hopefully we will finish up on Friday. I have not sent homework this week as I think the boys and girls are pretty tired come the end of the day. I have asked them to do some reading however and expect them to do a little each night.
The next few weeks will be very busy, things are winding down. Have a great week!

Every day should be "Earth Day".

Just a few things this week.
Grade Two-
Please remember to be working on your spelling words this week. I expect you to go over them every night and you don't really need help to do this. (Spelling words are in agendas). Go over them and then write them down on a piece of paper and mark your own, get in the habit of doing this and you will be amazed at how good you'll feel to be able to do this independently. Please be reading fifteen minutes or more every night too. Homework duotangs are due Friday.
Our K-5 drama Club will be performing their play at 9:00 am on May 5th for the Elementary school and at 6:00 pm that evening for the public. The evening performance is $5.00 per person and $10.00 per family. May 7th they will be going to Quispamsis.
Next Thursday, April 30th and Friday May 1st there is no school. Teachers will be attending Subject Council in Moncton.

Trouting Season begins!

Here we are Wednesday already.
Time is zipping by!
Grade Two:
- Only three pages of homework along with spelling words for Fri. test.
- The grade two Literacy Assessment is the end of May and early June. The boys and girls will be reading several short stories independently and answering multiple choice questions. They need to be reading every night in order to prepare for this. Please ask them questions about what they are reading and have them predict how the story may end. Stop midway through a chapter or story and discuss what your child has read. Just 15-20 minutes a night can make such a huge difference in your child's success as a reader.
- Reading Club, we are learning about octopuses. Ask your child about these amazing creatures.
Enjoy your week and the springish weather.

Happy St. Patrick's Day !

I think Spring is just "around the corner". Let us hope.
K-2 - a little update on report cards, they will be going home around March 31st.
The Scholastic Book Fair will be held April 1st and 2nd with Parent/Teacher Interviews on Thursday, April 2nd from 6:30- 8:00 pm. and Friday April 3rd from 9:00-12:00.am.

TNB will be performing Charlotte's Web on March 31st. Thank you to those who have already sent in their $2.00. If you haven't, please try to get it in as soon as you can. We look forward every year to having them come. Opportunities like this don't come around too often and it is very costly to bring something like this to Grand Manan.

Grade Two - Spelling results have NOT been good for the most part lately. I expect everyone to be studying his/her spelling words every night. I can understand getting one or two incorrect, but I am seeing tests where there are only one or two right. Please be writing these words out nightly until you know them well. Remember your reading every night too. That is how you become better at reading and also there are so many wonderful books out there at your fingertips!
Don't forget to wear green on Tuesday! Have a great week! M.Cronk

Happy Groundhog Day!

I think I am starting to thaw a little bit. This week our ten spelling words are: this, that, while, wheat, whip, whistle, whiskers, whatever, aunt and uncle. We have five pages of homework and I want to say how pleased I am to see the boys and girls going back and doing their corrections from the previous week. Book orders will be going home this week and... please check your child's head as, well, you know. Please listen to your child read and let him/her count the change in your pocket. You will be surprised at what these children can do. Have a great week and "keep your stick on the ice". M. Cronk

Deep Chill

Welcome once again. It has been awhile since I have "blogged". We are very busy here at school, heavily into writing,(procedural pieces at the moment) and in math we are working with solid shapes, fractions and addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers with regrouping. Just a reminder to everyone that it is very important for all students to be reading every night. Ideally your child is able to read aloud to you, but sometimes I realize he/she might have to read on his or her own. It is also important for you to ask your child questions about the story, that is the best way to test comprehension.
Our spelling words this week are: remove, cranberries, because, after, then, first, next, finally, another and heat.
Please be thinking about "public speaking" and "Day 100" projects. This will be new to you parents of Kindergarten students, but we will be sending information about this very soon.

Theatre New Brunswick will be performing for us next month so we ask each student to please bring in $2.00.
Have a great week. Please make sure your child is dressed properly for the playground, it is extremely cold out there. Until next week, M. Cronk
