Hallowe'en

This will be a busy week. Excitement is mounting with Hallowe'en on Friday. We will be going from room to room in grades K-2 in the afternoon. Each teacher has an activity planned. The boys and girls in Kindergarten will be visiting the Nursing Home Thursday morning, so they will be bringing costumes,( remember permission slips too please). If the Grade One and Two students want to bring a costume for the afternoon, they may.
Book orders should be here this week.
Grade Two- Homework as usual, ten spelling words for grade Two. The words are fairly simple. I encourage the girls and boys to study them on their own and to write them down. It seems to prepare them better for the test on Friday. Please continue with nightly reading. Remember to show your children newspapers, magazines and even the writing on cereal boxes. The more "print" they see , the better. They will surprise you with what they can read.
All for now, have a great week! M.Cronk

Fallish Weather

Fall is indeed here. Please be sure your "little ones" are dressed warmly. The playground can be cold especially if the wind is blowing.
K-2 have forms in their agenda bags to subscribe to Chickadee magazine. If you are not interested please sign the form anyway as we can get free stickers, etc. for the class, thanks.
Grade two : Please, please see that your children are reading every night. I have told them they may not get much of a chance on the weekends and that is fine. I do not want them to think of reading as work, but something they do for enjoyment and knowledge. It is not a contest. I am happy to say that almost everyone is reading every night. Also, don't be alarmed if your child brings home a book at a level lower than what he/she has been reading. Many good books have been overlooked as children move on to higher levels. If you notice however that he/she is always bringing a book that is three or four levels lower, please remind your child to pick something more challenging.
Gr. Two -The spelling words for this week are: hop, fit, grin, buzz, cross, less, miss, go, no, and fuss. Great job having homework in on Friday or before! Thankyou, have a good week. Mrs. Cronk

Thanksgiving weekend approaches

Welcome everyone to K-2 Cronk. It has taken a little while to get up and running, but here we are. The weather is certainly changing and our days are shorter. We are in full swing here in K-2 and things are busy, as you well know.
This week your children are bringing home a magazine catalogue for you to peruse. As the note states, if you or a family member wish to order something, just follow the instructions on the envelope and return the order form and money to me. The children at this grade level are not allowed to go door to door canvassing.
Grade Two- Our spelling words for this week are as follows: ox,run from, will, bell, doll, skull, there, they and windmill. The boys and girls are working hard and doing well with homework and nightly reading. Keep up the good work! This Friday, I will be testing the children on their "Doubles" and "Magic Numbers". Please be going over them until they know them well. Have a great week. Mrs.Cronk

Please encourage your child to look at the kilograms printed on different food items, such as sugar, flour, peanut butter, etc..
We will be learning about our "community" in "You and Your World" over the next couple of weeks and then we will continue working with our Reading Club.

The weather is still cold as you well know. Please don't forget to send hats and mittens with your little ones.

Happy New Year !

Hello to everyone and all the best in this new year. Everyone seems happy to be back at school. We have a regular amount of homework this week. Ten spelling words with related work sheets and some word problems in math. There are also some exercises on "wh" words and some work on antonyms and synonyms.
Please see that your child is reading to you each night. He /she should have a book from school, perhaps a chapter book, and he/she should be reading a chapter or a short book aloud. Please ask your child questions about the story and make sure the book that he/she chooses is not too difficult nor too easy. If they happen to forget a book, it is fine to read one from home.
Nothing else new for now, enjoy your week. The days are getting longer. M. Cronk
