The pace is ramping up! This week we have a few special days. Tomorrow, Dec. 9th is Toque day, be sure to wear your favourite toque. Dec. 10th is Frosty the Snowman Day, wear white if you can. Also, Wednesday is our "Book and Healthy Snack Sale" Day. Please send any donations you might have tomorrow and/or Wednesday. Your child should be able to get a book and a snack for $1.00 or $2.00.
This will be our last week for homework before the holidays. It would be nice to keep reading nightly though. :)

We had a great "Pink Week" last week which finished up with a visit and wonderful performance from Tenille last Friday. Many thanks to Ms. Ward and Student Council for all the time and work that went in to organizing the entire week, we really appreciate all you do.
Tomorrow is Thursday already and tonight is "The Children's Christmas Hour" at the Library tonight. It starts at 6:15 pm.
December 4th the Elementary Drama Club is performing "A Flea on Santa's Tree"at 6:00 pm in the Great Hall. Donations will be appreciated.
December 5th is BLUE and GOLD Day, remember to wear our school colours. Book orders are also due on this day but I wait until Monday to send the order in.
Try to get some reading done with your child, I know everyone is very busy but it can be a nice, cozy quiet time too.

Pink Week!!

This week we are to try to wear pink whenever possible. There are many exciting activities planned and little treats to be passed out over the course of the week. Please listen to your "talk mail" for details regarding "Pink Week". Our Dance is Wednesday November 26th from 6:00-6:45 pm.Admission is $3.00. Wear PINK.
Homework is due on or before Friday as usual. Remember to have your child read every night and record the title and date in his/her log book.

This week will be another four day week. We started our homework in class yesterday so everyone would have one page pretty well finished. It is a busy time for all and I have noticed some of the boys and girls have been neglecting their nightly reading. Please encourage them to read a book or a chapter each night. The spelling words are in their agendas, they are getting a bit trickie,r they need to study, study, study.
Report cards are going home today. Please sign the envelope and return it, keep the report.
Parent -Teacher Interviews start Thursday night, Nov. 20th 6:00-8:00 pm. Fri. Nov. 21st, there is no school for students. The teachers have PD in the morning and P/T Interviews will run from 1:00-3:00 pm. Please see the form in your child's report card envelope to schedule a time for Parent/Teacher.
Pink Week-Nov. 24th-28th. Wear pink if you can. This week will be full of activities and a special guest will be visiting.Wear pink. November 26th there is a dance from 6:00-6:45 pm.

Hallowe'en is almost here!

Please see your child's agenda (and or duotang), for spelling words. Please see that your child brings in his or her Reading Log at least once a week for me to check.
This is a busy week:
- Wednesday there is a "Kick -Off for Kindergarten" meeting for parents only at 7:00pm.
- Hallowe'en Dance for K-2 on Thursday Oct. 30th from 6:00-6:45 pm. admission $3.00.
- Hallowe'en for Hunger is a "drive" for the food bank, finishing up on Friday Oct.31st, please send a non-perishable food item in with your child.

-Thursday we are having an assembly at 1:25 pm, all are welcome to see our K-2 poems and songs.
- Friday the children may bring costumes to put on at noon if they wish. We will be moving around to "stations" in the K-2 wing.
- Wednesday we are starting an Art Club from 2:00-2:45 here at school, probably in Ms. Hogenbirk's room, you may pick up your child or have him or her go home on the 3:00 bus.
Like I said, this will be a busy week.

Days are certainly shortening.

The evenings are plenty long, makes a good chance for curling up with a book  (with your child).
This week's words are in your child's agenda and homework duotang as usual.
In math we have been reviewing counting by 2's, 5's and 10's forward and are now practicing this going backwards as well. We have completed our unit on patterns but will revisit this from time to time with a focus on number patterns over the next little while.
This Wednesday evening, October 22nd , the Library is having an activity time at 6:15 pm. Thursday after school there is Elementary Drama at 2:10 pm.
Remind your child to wear orange and black on Friday Oct. 24th.

Falling leaves .........

This week our spelling words are: she, with, are, he, funny, more, sip, lip, flip, trip and Saturday. We did most of our first homework sheet in class yesterday as this is a four day week. Collectively we have read more than 225 books since the beginning of the year, not too shabby at all.
Please continue checking your child's /children's heads for lice. This time of year brings all these little bonuses, colds and flu are making the rounds as well.

The boys and girls have been doing well with homework and nightly reading. They are a hard working bunch and I am very proud of them.
This week our spelling words are: all, here, big, is, little, most, cap, map, tap, trap and Friday.
Please try to have homework in before or on Friday. Library day is Wednesday, thanks for sending books back promptly. Remember if your child has read the book he/she can write that in the little log book (half scribbler) as well.

This week we have ten spelling words once again. They are: the, not, you, want, do, man, track, pack, lock and block. Please study them each night. Remember to read every evening (or morning), as well. Homework is due on, or before Friday. Everyone is doing a great job at completing his/her work.
Picture money is due by September 22nd. Class pictures and retakes are September 24th. If those of you who still owe $20.00 (or $10 for this term only), for the school fee can have it in as soon as possible it would be appreciated, the office requires it.

Nice weather continues....

This week is looking fairly busy. School pictures first thing Monday morning. Retakes will be Sept. 24th and 25th and will cost $15.00.
We have four sheets of homework this week so your child should get started on it tonight if possible. The spelling words are in the agendas. Also please remind him/her to read a book each night.
Friday is the day our students participate in the Terry Fox National School Day Run. We will be going around the school rain or shine. Please have your child dressed for the weather.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school everyone. It is hard to believe, but September is here and we are beginning a new school year. Homework will be sent home most Mondays. If we have a short week there may be less or none at all. our spelling words are in your child's agenda. We practiced them last week and everyone had them all right! I would like the boys and girls to read every night. If your child forgets to bring a book home, please choose one from home and have him/her read it and write the title and date in the Log Book. I would like your child to print the title and date on his/her own. It is very good practice.
Book orders are due Wednesday, Sept. 10th.
September 12th, GMCS Cinema is playing Rio 2 at 7:00pm. On Friday September 19th we will be walking around the school for the Terry Fox Run at 1:00 pm.

We will not be having any more homework. I would like the boys and girls to continue reading regularly though. This is so important and is a wonderful habit to have.
Book orders are due June 4th (5th). I sent a calendar home today with events and birthdays for the month. I found two on tables after school so if your child did not have one, just get him/her to ask me for another. Kynan is celebrating a birthday June 8th. The 9th is reagistration night for Power Readers at the Library, information will be coming home later this week.

Spring Carnival Week

Yes it is finally here, Spring Carnival. Thank you for getting your order forms and money in so promptly.
Here is the schedule of events:
Monday-pyjama day/lazy day
Tuesday-Twin Day
Wednesday-Beach Day and Golden Breaker Awards at 7:00pm
Thursday-Neon Day and Rave Dance at 6:00pm., $3.00/ person
Friday-Hat Day and Fun Day, inflatables, hotdogs and movie.

Last week for Homework. Please see that your child turns back the pages and corrects any mistakes he/she might have made, I know there are some.
Spelling words are: summer, fall, winter, spring, autumn, swimming, pool, beach, camping and school.
I would like to see all of the Reading Logs returned by Friday. Some of them are here and I will send them home for the week, until Friday.

This week the spelling words are: myself, again, live, warm, pull, may, does, first, goes, and better.
We have some wonderful reading going on in our classroom and hopefully at home too. This is very exciting!
Book orders are due by the end of the week, May 9th. Also, "The Lego Movie" is playing in the Great Hall at 7:00pm. on Friday, May 9th.
Lastly, a big Happy Birthday to Owen, his birthday was May 6th. There are more to come this month too!

No spring this year, I guess.

We have another four day week this week. Friday, May 2nd is Subject Council Day in Moncton for Teachers, there will be no school for students that day. Also, Monday, May 5th we have NBTA/GMTA meetings here for teachers, no school for students. Subsequently I have been giving less homework.
Our spelling words this week are: before, its, then, from, after, cut, many, shall, way and plate.
Reading levels are moving up and many students have passed the "100 Book" mark. Please have homework in  on or before Thursday.

Trouting Season begins tomorrow.

We have a short week again this week, and a busy one.
For homework we have the following words: thank, school, but, own, never, fly, know, much, than and spill.
Also, remember to use those "doubles" and "magic numbers" when adding.
Tonight at 6:30pm the Elementary Drama Club is performing. Tomorrow there will also be a 9:00 am performance for grades 3-5.Mrs. Jones and Ms. Toole and the boys have worked very hard. They will be travelling to Saint John on Wednesday.
Thursday, April 17th is a PD day, Friday is Good Friday and then Easter Monday there will be no school.

Spring is "springing"

Lovely way to start the week weather-wise, I think it will be different tomorrow. The playground is quite muddy, we will need rubber boots for awhile.
Since we had no homework last week, we will have the "Easter" spelling words this week. Please see that your child is reading every night.
Book orders are due tomorrow, but I will wait until Wednesday to send in the order. "Jump Rope for Heart" is starting this week, please read the accompanying slip of paper explaining the rules.
We have started working on "comprehension" exercises in preparation for our May Literacy Assessment. Please be asking your child questions about the stories they are reading. Talk to them about predicting outcomes and "reading between the lines".
"Small Ball" is starting soon. I will send more info on that as we receive it.

A regular week, hopefully.

This week our spelling words are: Easter, egg, chick, bunny, basket, church, bunnies, baskets, churches, and dresses. Please remind your boys and girls to print neatly and to read every night.
The book fair will be open Monday and Monday evening as well. Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held Monday evening from 6:00-8:00pm.
April 2nd TNB will be here performing "Wally and His Inner Bear" from 10:00-11:00am., the student fee covers the cost of this.
Elementary drama will have a dress rehearsal on the 14th at 6:30 pm.  and will perform for K-8 on April 15th at 9:00 am. They will be travelling to the Drama Festival on April 16th.

Report Cards and Parent/Teacher Interviews

Yes it is that time again. Report cards are going home tomorrow. Parent/Teacher Interviews will start Thursday evening at 6:00 pm. and run until 7:50 pm. If you have a preferred time just send me a note along with your child and I will write your name in a time slot. We will also have time on Friday morning from 9:00- 10:50 am.
This week our spelling words are: best, small, over, long, off, together, sit, were, part and shell.
We are not in school on Friday so homework will need to be in on, or before Thursday.
The Scholastic Bookfair opens Wednesday March 26th at 9:00am. until 3:30 pm. and again in the evening from 6:00-8:00pm., same hours on Thursday and again Friday morning. Please remember to fill out the form on the back to have a chance to win books for your child and your child's classroom.

Still COLD.

Yes it is still cold.
This week's spelling words are: going, write, stop, into, got, made, new, would, each and chest. Please, please, please see that your child is reading every night. Thank you.
Our Donna and Andy performance was wonderful, just ask your children. Send in your order form if you would like to buy a CD.
Your child is bringing home a Music Festival schedule. Our Grade Two class will be performing Thursday March 20th at 9:40  am., cost of admission is $2.00.
Report cards will be going home one week from tomorrow, March 25th. Please remember to return only the signed envelope. Parent /teacher sessions will be the end of that week. There will also be the Scholastic Book Fair in the Library during that time.

Welcome Back!

It is great to see everyone back after a nice break.

March Break is approaching.

This week our spelling words are: was, around, tell, eat, think, our, gave, once, back, and straw.
Please see that your child is reading regularly each night. This is extremely important. We have been doing Aimsweb testing on reading comprehension and it would appear that a fair number of children are not reading at home.
This Friday everyone needs to remember to retrurn his/her library book if they have one checked out. We do not want any unnecessary fines.
I will send home the March Book orders this week and they will be due when we return on the 10th  of March.
This Wednesday night Feb. 26th, is Family Movie Night. FROZEN is playing here at school at 6:15-7:55 pm.

Short week....

This week your child's spelling words are numbers zero-ten. Since it is a four day week, we started our homework in school today. I have not seen all the Reading Logs in awhile. Please ask your child to make sure he/she brings it in, thank you. Please be reading every night :)
Still in the spirit of the Olympics, today was "Jersey" day, Wednesday is "Olympic Sport Day", and Thursday we are to wear red and white.
Lego Club is still going strong every Tuesday, with lots of participants.

Projects and Valentines

We are in for a busy week. It will be a challenge fitting homework in..... maybe not. Our spelling words are: had, don't, some, them, by, very, old, went, another, and chug. Your child should have four different books tonight to read over the course of the week. If he/she doesn't, please see that he/she reads on from home and writes it in the Reading Log.
Thursday is Day 100. We have started presenting our 100 Day projects as they come in. We are also supporting the Sochi 2014 Olympics by wearing a different colour every day this week. Tuesday is "Black" day, Wednesday is "yellow" day, Thursday is "green" day and Friday is "red and white" day. The following week will have special days as well.
Friday we will exchange Valentine cards and have a few treats, if you would like to send something that would be lovely, we already have some drinks provided.
Have a good week and let's hope we have no snow days to throw off our schedule.

Day 100 is fast approaching!

This week our spelling words are: could, walk, has, take, of, laugh, drink, far, mother and trunk. Please encourage your child to read every night. Many of the students have moved up a level in their reading. Way to go!!
Book orders are due this Friday February 7th. ( I will call in the order Feb. 10th).
Many of the boys and girls are forgetting to return their library books on Friday, I am afraid fines will start accumulating.
Lego Construction Club will be on Tuesdays for students in grade 1 and 2 from 2:00-3:00 pm. They may go home on the 3:00 pm. bus but need to bring a note.

January's end

Another week of eratic weather. Oh boy!!
This week our spelling words are: fast, please, down, for, him, her,why, upon, other and slump.The new and improved "nightly reading" routine seems to be working rather well. More boys and girls have reached their first goal of reading one hundred books. Way to go!!
Please be practicing "doubles" and "magic numbers". This is a big help when it comes to addition and subtraction, and there is a fair bit of both in the homework.
This morning we had two nurses from the G.M. Hospital to give us a presentation on Winter Safety. It was very informative and the girls and boys were a very attentive audience.

No, spring has not really arrived.

What a lovely change in the weather, temporary I am sure. It is still chilly on the playground and there are lots of puddles, please see that your children wear their boots.
This week our spelling words are: up, sleep, as, they, give, use, how, Saturday, dine and vine.
The boys and girls are bringing their books home on Mondays, for the week. It makes for a bit of a frantic start on Monday morning but I am sure they will get into the swing of it before long.
Abbi has a birthday this coming Saturday. Happy Birthday Abbi!

Happy New Year and welcome back!

It is great to see everyone back, rested and ready for second term.
There is no homework this week. However, I do expect everyone to be reading each night. The boys and girls have brought three books home tonight. This is so they do not have to remember to get a new one every day. We will see how this works. I know many of them forget to change them daily. Book orders are due in on January 13th.
Drama will be on Thursday as usual, for the regular participants.
This Saturday, January 11th, there is "Think Pink" basketball for breast cancer. The senior girls and boys will be playing teams from Harvey beginning at 12:00 noon.
